Welcome to the Belmont Historical Society, Inc. We enjoy helping the citizens of Belmont learn more about the rich and diverse history of the city that began its life as Garibaldi. The historical house museum has many permanent displays with furnishings, artifacts, photos, and many other things that show Belmont’s history from the earliest nomadic people who came through this area through the textile era.

Many Belmont citizens, past and present, are featured in photos on our walls, in scrapbooks, and in the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame.

Come and see our temporary display of photos, uniforms, and authentic items from each of the wars from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf Wars. Items have been contributed by citizens of the greater Belmont area.

Of special interest to many is the 1855 handwritten will of Larkin Stowe, original owner of most of the South Point peninsula and member of the NC legislature.
